Full Fat’s Top Tips For Managing Mental Health In The Workplace
Here at Full Fat we’re big believers in being open about mental health.
It's a key focus when it comes to our company ethos. We know that it can all get too much sometimes, especially in agency life, but it doesn’t have to be like that! Our superstar team has put together rituals, methods and approaches they swear by to support their heads.
Opening up
How does the old saying go?! “A problem shared is a problem halved”. Well we wouldn’t want to commit to that ROI but it is very helpful to speak up before it’s too late. Good examples of this is chatting to your line manager if you’re feeling overwhelmed, or asking for help when it comes to prioritizing work. More often than not they will help you to lighten the load and get through that to-do list.
Get a life
No really, we’re not kidding. Work is very important but so is your life outside of work. Make sure you’re doing something else before you open up your laptop or tap that mail app. Go for a walk, get to the gym, or even have breakfast out and try something different. We also think doing something between work and play is important too - maybe it’s just a stretch at the end of the day, or a quick 10 min catch up with a friend, it's a great way to create a division.
Live for the weekend
We all want to ‘do well’ but in order to succeed in our work, we need to shut off from it. A great way to do this is writing a to-do list on Friday afternoon, so you don’t have to get ahead on Sunday or feel like you have no idea what is going on come Monday at 9am!
Notification station
No one is going to tell you to stop working apart from you, so make sure you do your work in your working hours. It can be hard with that tiny little computer in your pocket but now you can set notification times to on and off and schedule emails. Make sure you’re using tech’s mental health tools to manage the media barrage. If you want to go cold turkey… just turn the notifications off. Don’t worry, the world will carry on!
Chow down
Your lunch break is called a lunch break for a reason… Take a minute and chill. Get outside, shut your laptop and leave your phone out of reach. If you want to take it to the next level, why not try some mindful eating techniques…yum yum, this kimchi is just divine.
We hope our five top tips have been helpful!
