Social Media Management: Debunking the myth of the ‘Glorified Tweeter’.

It’s 2022. Social media giants have been around since 2004 and what was once a role for the few brands that could afford it, is now a key part of every marketing strategy.

The average UK user spends 149 minutes on social media every day (Review 42), so it’s no surprise 25 million Brits aged 16-35 think they’re capable of stepping into our shoes (Statista 2022). Like any career, there’s knowledge and skills to be gained. As glossy as you think your curated grid may be, no brand is willing to accept photos of your dog as a well executed content plan. Sorry lads, it’s just not that easy.

And so, after years of being labelled a glorified Tweeter I thought it was time to clear up exactly what my role at Full Fat entails. Strap in…

Strategy planning:

  • Aka the crux of your campaign. Creating the structure and narrative, plus planning which platforms are most suited to your objectives. From timelines and budgets to key hashtags and prospective partners - this can be make or break how well your content lands.

Community Management:

  • Managing the day-to-day handling of all client channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok AND YouTube) while monitoring and interacting with communities. We also deal with keyboard warriors and in my opinion, this is why we’re the unsung heroes of the online world.

Copywriting:

  • Turning corporate jargon into entertaining copy that even the coolest of social media kings would approve of. Creative writing and a colloquial tone work wonders here.

Content Calendars:

  • Just the small task of planning and generating content ideas for every day of every week, for the entire year. A beast, but super creative and one for those with an overactive imagination.

Content creation:

  • Finalising the weird and wonderful ideas you’ve just developed in a two hour long brainstorm and bringing them to life. The main goal here? VIRAL CONTENT PLEASE.

Influencer outreach & management:

  • Getting influencers to be your besties. Finding and forming key relationships and making sure they deliver top-notch content from start to finish.

On-site content capture:

  • Exactly what it says on the tin. Attending launch events, photoshoots, festivals and running around with your camera like the biggest fan girl ever.

Shoot Management:

  • Planning, planning and more planning, before getting production teams and models all in one room to capture hundreds of assets. From venues and colour schemes down to the specific cutlery to make your brand pop - it’s all in the details.

Paid social:

  • Developing, building and monitoring adverts that reach the masses and get people to engage, visit your website and spend cash dollars. Those ads that target you with exactly what you want at the perfect time? Yep, that’s us! Basically magicians.

Reporting:

  • Tracking and analysing your content performance while researching the latest trends. A seriously intense numbers game, but super key to any successful campaign.

New biz and pitching:

  • Researching, brainstorming and coming up with brand-new, innovative ideas that’ll impress prospective clients all while putting yourself under the microscope for interrogation.

Being a champion of social media:

  • Everyone looks to you as the king or queen of content. It’s your role to educate the wider team on how to use social media and promote Full Fat’s services outside of the office's four walls. You also get to snap the finest (and not so finest) moments of your colleagues and blame it on ‘showcasing company culture”. PURE GOLD.

Along with client management, box packing, modelling, finance admin, shoot dressing and more… the list goes on. Working as a Social Media Manager is extremely fun and I'd 100% recommend it as a career for anyone with a passion for comms. It’s versatile, ever-changing and offers some crazy perks that make our IG feeds shine, but it’s also so much more than that.

There's real strategy, dedication, thought and time invested into a digital role, which, those both inside and outside of the marketing world might not realise. The job demands creativity and requires you to have 100 tabs open all day every day. So, if you’re looking to kickstart your brand’s online presence, or you need a social media overhaul, get in touch and find out more about the wide range of digital services we have to offer at Full Fat.
