Morocco Earthquake Support
We recently experienced an incredible few days in Marrakech as we ventured overseas for our annual team Summit, arriving back to the UK just one day before the devastating earthquake hit the beautiful country of Morocco.
The contrast of what was the most enriching and fun-filled trip, against the devastating earthquake stirs up a lot of emotions, highlighting the privilege we hold in a seismic shift of perspective.
We were so fortunate to stay at the new beautiful boutique hotel, IZZA, with an itinerary full of rich cultural experiences; exploring Jardin Majorelle, the chaotic and enchanting Medina, a tour of Amine El Gotaimi’s stunning and thought provoking studio and art, a stunning group dinner at local restaurant +61, and so many small moments and encounters with the warm people of Morocco. Even the hustle and bustle of the souks comes with its charm… Morocco has our heart. Just a few hours later a devastating earthquake caused major destruction, particularly at the epicentre in the Atlas Mountains, destroying villages with many deaths and affecting the lives of the wonderful people that made our trip so special. It is something that we, as a team, are challenged to comprehend.
During our time in Morocco, we were fortunate to meet incredible people who welcomed us with the warmest hospitality - IZZA’s team, “a family” was no exception. The earthquake's impact on the communities we had visited weighs heavily on our hearts. Our journey to Morocco taught us that privilege comes with a responsibility to empathise, to act, and to advocate for those less fortunate. As we extend our thoughts and support to the people of Morocco in the wake of the earthquake, we would also like to spotlight some important fundraising efforts:
Red Cross, Islamic Relief UK, Global Giving, UNICEF and Give Directly are accepting cash donations.
Marrakesh restaurant Plus61 has set up a GoFundMe to provide improved shelter for those now homeless in the High Atlas Mountains.
Middle East Archive has released a new Morocco Print that can be purchased, with all proceeds going to families affected by the Earthquake.
The Road to Nowhere are selling ‘Letters Home’ vinyl stickers designed by Moroccan-British designer Saadia Mebchour, 100% of proceeds going to the cause. Stickers cost just £2.
Also accepting donations is Amal non profit who are on the ground doing amazing work right now.
The immediate needs also span shelter and warm clothing and we’re working on a campaign to secure over 500 tents alongside warm clothing and sleeping bags. More details to come on this and if you can help in any way, please do get in touch and you know of any other ways to get involved please contacts us on: info@wearefullfat.com
All our love, hope & support to Morocco and all those suffering from the recent earthquake.
